Good tickets

Police should be forced to give out good tickets as well as bad.

When you want someone to stop doing something, or also stop doing it when no one's looking you always give them positive reinforcement. Negative reinforcement simply moves the problem to when no one's looking.

If you want a person to stop leaving dishes in the sink, you give them $10 when you find them in the drying rack. If you yell at them every time they leave them in the sink, you lose a friend and you get dishes in the rack only when you're looking.

Police should follow suite. I'm not concerned about the driver who only drives well when police are watching. I want drivers to drive well when they are not looking, as I'm sure we all do. Why no give police the ability to give you $10 for stopping at a stop sign. Or $15 for letting the old lady cross at the cross walk. I bet if you did that everybody would be much better drivers, and they'd probably actually look to police to be honorable civil servants.
